Department of Oral Mucosal Disease

The Department of Oral Mucosal Disease, established in 2013, is a specialized and comprehensive clinic center for oral medicine in Chongqing, providing professional treatment and prevention as well as health care for patients with oral mucosal diseases from all over the south-west China. There are currently 4 doctors in our department, including 1 chief physician, 1 associate chief physician, and 2 attending physicians, all of who have doctoral degree.

We had nationwide top-ranked diagnosis and treatment level of common oral mucosal diseases, including oral lichen planus, oral leukoplakia, all kinds of ulcerations and infections of oral mucosa, bullous diseases of oral mucosa, burning mouth syndrome, lip and tongue related diseases, etc. We also feature management of refractory diseases using traditional Chinese medicine and multiple disciplinary methods. A variety of new techniques and services are available including photodynamic therapy, laser therapy, focused ultrasound therapy, millimeter wave therapy, biofeedback treatment, etc. Annual visits are increasingly rising with over 30,000 visits per year.

The department has currently trained 13 masters and doctors in total, and undertaken 7 scientific research projects in the past five years, 2 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and 5 from the Chongqing Science and Technology Commission. The research direction is mainly on the etiology and prevention of oral cancer and potential malignant diseases, and etiology of oral mucosal disease related to anxiety and depression. 10 SCI papers and 3 monographs have been published.

 

Diagnosis and treatments include:

1. Oral mucosal ulcerative diseases

2. discoid lupus erythematosus, etc.

3. Infectious diseases of the oral mucosa, such as oral herpes, oral candidiasis, etc.

4. Lip and tongue diseases, burning mouth syndrome, etc.

5. Allergic diseases

6. Bullous diseases such as pemphigus, pemphigoid, etc.

7. The manifestations of sexually transmitted diseases or systemic diseases in the oral cavity

8. Outpatient surgical resection of oral mucosal growth

9. Treatment of oral mucosa-related periodontal diseases
